Pigments and the history of them

http://webexhibits.org/pigments/intro/early.html

From this website I found out that before we had all this technology, back then we had to use animals, vegetables or iron oxide found in the ground. They also state that people had to travel very far just to find a red pigment so they could use it to paint. They also were limited to the three basic colors that were red, black, and yellow. Red, yellow, and browns came from the limonites and hematites with are (ochres and siennas), that was a range of reddish brown with is evident in the paintings.

The through the middle ages mineral pigments were used the most by painters in the 1900’s for example one of them is iron oxide that helped them make multiple colors.
